Summary of the Core Community's Code of Conduct

No matter where we live in Australia, we all share a common set of values that influence the way we behave.  This forms the foundation of our path and represents our lineage and path of spirituality.

Ananda Sangha Australia’s mission is to fulfil Paramhansa Yogananda's vision through joyful service and meditation, sharing the path of Kriya Yoga for Self-realisation, and living by principles such as "people are more important than things" and "high thinking and simple living". Ananda Sangha Australia focuses on spiritual, material, and personal development, providing a supportive environment for individuals to realise their inner divine joy.

A core component is sharing the spiritual teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda with others in satsang, meditation and service. These serve as a means to express devotion to God and to live out spiritual principles in a tangible, practical way.

Our Values

Self-realisation: The ultimate goal is to realise one's connection to God through meditation and spiritual practice and seeking Truth as satchidananda 'ever conscious, ever-new ever-expanding Bliss.'

Meditation: A cornerstone of daily life, used to achieve inner peace and a higher state of consciousness.

Joy: The pursuit of "the joy of your own being" and achieving inner peace.

Positive attitudes: Cultivating positive attitudes and harmony is considered essential to the community way of life.

Inclusivity: All sincere seekers are welcome, regardless of their background.

Simplicity: Ananda promotes "simple living and high thinking," which involves reducing wants so that material things do not intrude on inner freedom.

Daily practices: Members integrate meditation and other spiritual practices as handed down from our Guru, Paramhansa Yogananda, to Swami Kriyananda, into their daily lives.

Community: Our community seeks to  provide structure for group activities, mutual support, safety and growth for our community.

Service: Members engage in selfless service as a way to grow spiritually and uplift others.

Overview of Dharma as Members of the Community

As a registered charity in the country, we hold a constitution and code of conduct as part of our responsibility. As part of the greater spiritual family of Ananda, we uphold our mission, principles and values to behave and act on behalf of Ananda as members.

We strive to keep the Sangha free from discrimination, inequity, bias and disruptive behaviour.  However, given that we are all learning and challenges in this area can arise, we have endeavoured to create a Code of Conduct to clarify the expectations within a core community and responses to events that affect our core values and harmony.

The purpose of this Code is to put to paper how we can stay true to the values established by our Guru, Paramhansa Yogananda, and passed down to us through our spiritual teacher, Swami Kriyananda, founder of Ananda and direct disciple of Yogananda.
